Bitmap monogram
For this project, I focused on turning a monogram into a design. The stipulations were that the monogram had to be in black and white and that I was unable to use diagonal lines to form a letter.
This presented me with a challenge since my initials are SNH. I began the project by formulating my sketches on a printed-out grid and from there I digitized them. I had difficulty thinking of a way to form my monogram without using diagonal lines.
One day, I thought that I should deconstruct the letters. From there, I used multiple lines to form a loose letter form. After, I removed some of these lines to leave open spaces in the monogram. I decided to push legibility and lean more into the design aspect versus the monogram aspect. This project caused me to think about typography in a new way by emphasizing that typography can be design.
