Rail Jam Branding
Every year, Montana State University has a large-scale ski rail competition. This event is titled Rail Jam. Rail Jam includes big-time sponsors such as Rockstar, World boards, and Yeti. The event draws in people from different states, talented athletes, and large sums of money. I was granted the great privilege of designing the graphic material for Rail Jam this year.
I was asked to create three different mood boards that represented three different design directions. From there, I was asked to create a poster draft for each mood board. Ultimately, two of the designs were fused together. I used old pictures to make cutouts of athletes, and I overlaid a texture on them. I then placed the athletes on the event logo. This was to mimic the idea that the athletes were skiing and snowboarding on the logo. I added sketches to the design. I finished by placing the type and sponsor logos.
This project was a long but rewarding process. It included multiple drafts and client meetings. Ultimately, this is one of my favorite projects I have worked on. It taught me so much about designing for a client and the timeline for marketing an event. With this project, I created multiple designs to promote the event, ask for athletes and volunteers, and serve as signage at the event.
